About Us

Health Advocacy Mutual Inclusivity

Our journey began in 2019, driven by our collective concern for the disparity and the lack of mental health awareness and the opioid overdose crisis in our community. Devastated by these challenges, we— a group of friends—decided to take action. This is our story of ambition, which in Somali, translates to “Hami”.

Our Programs

What We Do

HAMI offers a range of programs designed to promote mental wellness, address substance use challenges, and provide youth engagement opportunities in culturally sensitive ways.

Healing Circles

A safe and supportive space where individuals are encouraged to express themselves authentically, share their stories, and experience a sense of belonging.

Outdoor Art Therapy & Healing

Circles for Young Girls and Women event is a cornerstone, featuring guided art therapy session helping participants visualize personal growth.

Opioid Crisis

Our community conversations bring awareness to the opioid crisis within the East African community, offering education, support, and resources to families impacted by substance use.

Narcan Training & Parental Education

This hands-on program trains parents and community members in the administration of Narcan, equipping them to respond effectively in overdose situations.

Mental Health Workshop

We bring together experienced healthcare professionals to lead interactive panels focused on mental health. These sessions engage the community in open conversations about mental well-being, providing insights on stress management, self-care, and access to local resources.

Youth Engagement

In collaboration with Crawford High, we provide mental health workshops tailored for adolescents. Sessions focus on stress management, self-care techniques, and healthy coping strategies.
